(a) Limiting instructions requested by party. When evidence is admissible as to one party or for one purpose but not admissible as to another party or for another purpose and is admitted, the court, upon a timely and specific request, shall restrict the evidence to its proper scope and instruct the jury accordingly.

(b) Limiting instructions without request. The court may instruct the jury in the absence of a request when the interests of justice require. The court should advise the parties of the content of its proposed instruction and allow comment on the record outside of the hearing of the jury. Revised Rule 105.
