Communication 1938 (Uruguay)
1938, of May 15, 1975, denounces the arrest of 82 individuals in Uruguay, listing, in some cases the circumstances of the detention and details of the physical abuses to which they were allegedly being submitted.
In a letter dated May 21, 1975, the Secretariat acknowledged receipt to the complainant.
During its thirty-fifth session (May 1975) the Commission examined the denunciation and decided the following:
a) To request the Government of Uruguay to provide the appropriate information on the cases in which details or specific information were provided on the circumstances of the matter, in accordance with the provisions of Articles 38 and 54 of the Regulations and
b) To request the claimant to supplement the denunciation on the other cases.
Pursuant to point a) of this decision a note was sent to the Government of Uruguay on August 7, 1975 and a copy of that note was sent to the Uruguayan Mission to the OAS on August 18. Pursuant to b), a letter was sent to the claimant on September 12, requesting that he supplement the denunciation.
During its thirty-fifth session (October 1975) the Commission continued its examination of case 1938, and agreed to postpone examination thereof until its next session, once the Government of Uruguay had had the opportunity to provide the information requested and the claimant to provide the additional information requested.
