Communication 1913 (Chile)
1913, of March 5, 1975, denounces the arbitrary arrest and torture of Mr. Christian Castillo Echeverría, a Chilean architect, the whereabouts of his alleged imprisonment being unknown.
In a cable of March 5, 1975, the Commission requested the Government of Chile to provide the pertinent information. A copy of that cable was transmitted to the Delegation of Chile to the OAS on March 5, 1975. In a communication of that same date, the Secretariat acknowledged receipt to the claimant, informing the individual of the procedures followed in connection with the case. In a cable of March 10, 1975, the Government of Chile replied to this request for information. The pertinent parts of that reply appear below:
In a note dated March 10, 1975, the Commission acknowledged receipt of the information sent by the Government of Chile. A copy of that note was transmitted to the Delegation of Chile to the OAS on March 11, 1975. In a communication dated March 10, 1975, the pertinent parts of the reply sent by the Government of Chile were transmitted to the claimant.
The Commission examined case 1913 during its thirty-fifth session (May 1975), together with the information provided by the Government of Chile, and decided to file the case.
The Government of Chile and the claimant were informed of this decision through notes dated August 5, 1975, and August 19, 1975, respectively.
