Communication 1859 (Chile)
1859, presented through a communication of July 27, 1974, denounces the arbitrary arrest in Santiago of Juan Andrés Blanco Castillo, a Dominican student.
In a note of July 29, 1975, the Commission requested the Government of Chile to provide the appropriate information. In a note of January 14, 1975 (No. 0368), the Government of Chile informed the CIDH that it was conducting inquiries in order to provide information as requested.
The Commission studied this case during the course of its thirty-fifth session (May 1975) and decided the following:
a. To bring the pertinent parts of the Government's reply to the attention of the claimant and
b. To reiterate to the Government its request for transmittal of information on the results of the inquiries made into the case.
Pursuant to this decision, notes were sent to the Government of Chile on August 6, 1975.
During the thirty-sixth session (October 1975), the Commission continued its study of the case and, noting that the request made to the Government of Chile on August 6, was still in course, it decided to postpone examination of the case until the next session.
