Intellectual Property Summer Session: Applications

Washington D.C. Applications

All applications must be completed by May 30, 2017. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until courses are filled. 

American University Washington College of Law JD and LL.M. students enroll through when summer course registration opens (usually mid-March). 

Non-credit participants (CLE or a Certificate of Attendance) enroll through the online application. When you file your initial application and fee, you will be sent a link to finally register and pay full tuition. You will be registered once the final course tuition is received. Registration is now open. Discounts are available for WCL alumni, governemnt and non-profit employees and residents of developing countries.    

Visiting law students who wish to enroll for ABA-accredited law school academic credit must follow the guidelines for visiting students found on the WCL summer registration pageYou need letter of good standing from your school and (in the same or another letter) permission to enroll in the summer courses you choose. Email the scans of the letter(s) and the WCL visiting law student application to the Registrar ( and PIJIP ( and any other summer programs you are enrolling in. You will register for the courses through the WCL student course registration process after the applications are accepted. To ensure timely registration and access to course materials, please complete your application as soon as practicable. 

Geneva Applications

Fees for Geneva courses include housing and local transportation but not travel to Geneva. Geneva participants without a background in international intellectual property law are strongly advised to enroll in Introduction to International Intellectual Property parts I and II, taught as part of the Washingon D.C. Summer Sessions.

Transferrable Credit to WCL Programs

Up to four Summer credits may be transferred to WCL at a later time for pursuit of a JD, LLM or SJD degree from WCL. 

Withdrawals and Refunds

For certificate (non-credit) students, a full refund of course fees is available for any course that you withdraw from before the start of the Summer Session. Cancellations after that time will not be refunded. Substitutions will be considered. 

Applicants who have registered or paid a deposit for academic credit should notify us immediately in case of withdrawal. Students who have registered to receive academic credit must also contact the Office of the Registrar for information about withdrawal forms and deadlines. Refunds will not be avaliable for withdrawals after the start of the course.
