Phi Delta Phi was established on December 13, 1869, by four University of Michigan law students to promote the highest standards of legal ethics and scholarship within law schools and the legal profession. Today, Phi Delta Phi remains the oldest and most prestigious legal honor fraternity in the world, restricted to law students and legal practitioners, with over 131 active inns and more than 200,000 members. Over the past decade, Phi Delta Phi's reputation as a scholarly organization devoted to legal excellence has expanded internationally, with inns being chartered in Canada, Mexico, and Europe.
The John F. Kennedy Inn of Phi Delta Phi was established to promote the highest standards of scholarship and legal ethics among the community at American University Washington College of Law. In memory of the late President John F. Kennedy and by special vote of the International Fraternity, this Inn is the only Phi Delta Phi Inn named after a non-lawyer.
We hold two initiations during the academic year: One during fall semester in November and one during spring semester in April. For information on how to become a member of our Inn, please email us at PDP@wcl.american.edu.
