Alvina Reckman-Myers First Year Moot Court Tournament

The Alvina Reckman-Myers First Year Moot Court Competition gives first-year students the opportunity to test their appellate oral advocacy skills in a low-stakes environment while receiving substantive feedback from Moot Court Honor Society members. The Competition prepares first-year students for their Legal Rhetoric spring oral argument and Moot Court's Spring Qualifying Tournament (SQT). Two preliminary rounds will take place on January 20, 2024; thirty-two competitors will be invited back to compete in the elimination rounds on January 21, with the four finalists squaring off before a panel of practitioners and AUWCL professors in the afternoon.

Demonstration Session:  Join the Moot Court Honor Society on November 30, 2023, at 12:00p.m. in the Ceremonial Classroom, NT01 for Slices, Sign-up, and a Show, where you can come eat some pizza while watching members of the team demonstrate oral argument of this year’s Rhetoric Open Memo. Afterward, there will be a short presentation about the competition, and we will open the registration period, which will end on January 6, 2024 at 5:00p.m.

Recommendations for Preparation: Competitors are strongly encouraged and permitted to read all cases cited in the record. Competitors are prohibited from consulting any other materials, which include, but are not limited to, law reviews, briefings, white papers, and other court documents not referenced in the record. See the Competition Rules for more information about how to prepare. Please contact firstyearcompdirectors@gmail.com with any questions!
