Student Involvement

Student involvement in WCL's Moot Court Honor Society ranges not only from participation on the Executive Board and Team, but also to assisting Directors in various intra- and inter- school competitions as either assistants or bailiffs.

Assistants

If you are interested in applying to assist a Director in a competition please contact the Moot Court Honor Society at 202-274-4401 to inquire about available positions. Assistants are generally selected early in the Fall semester.

Bailiffs

Bailiffs open each session of Moot Court and keep time during oral arguments. At WCL Intra-school competitions, each competitor is allotted 15 minutes to argue. At the Burton D. Wechsler First Amendment Moot Court Tournament and the National High School Tournament, teams of two competitors divide 30 minutes between them.

"Bailiffing" is a great way to learn oral argument tactics through observation, and is a terrific service to the law school community.

Interested students should contact the Moot Court Honor Society either by telephone at 202-274-4401 or by email at moot@wcl.american.edu.
