Executive Board Biography

Garylene "Gage" Javier, President

Gage Javier Executive Board Picture

Gage Javier is a 2013 candidate pursuing her LL.M. in Law and Government with dual concentrations in National Security and Intellectual Property. Currently, Ms. Javier works in the Civil Litigation Division of the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia as well as the Center of Health and Homeland Security in their Washington, D.C. satellite office. She worked at the National Security Counselors, providing legal assistance to clients involved in security law or information and privacy law-related proceedings. Ms. Javier also worked at the U.S. National Central Bureau of INTERPOL in Washington, D.C. in the Office of the General Council as well as the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

While studying at the Appalachian School of Law, Ms. Javier served as the Associate Editor for the Appalachian Natural Resources Law Journal and was an SBA Council Member. Ms. Javier was also elected as the ABA Law Student Division 4th Circuit Governor overseeing ABA programming across law schools in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. She also served several national positions as the co-chair of the ABA Law Student Division Resolutions and Advocacy Committee and the national chair of the Infrastructure Task Force.

A native of California, Ms. Javier graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a degree in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics and a Minor in Political Science. Prior to attending law school, she worked in biotechnology research in the San Francisco Bay Area and for four years served as the assistant training director for the California Explorer Search and Rescue, a wilderness search and rescue team serving the entire state of California.

Angela Alves, Vice President

Angela Alves Executive Board Picture

Angela Alves is a Rhode Island native who obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Boston University and a minor in French in 2008. In her capacity as an executive board member of the Admission Student Diversity Board, she worked closely with the Admissions Office to increase minority enrollment at Boston University. Additionally, during her undergraduate career she served as a founding member of the Minorities Law Association in an effort to help minority students access pertinent information related to law school admission.

Her passion to help others and improve her surround community continued as she enrolled in Roger Williams University School of Law. As a law student, she served as a student attorney in the Immigration Law Clinic where she represented non-immigrants in removal proceedings. Ms. Alves was a recipient of a Public Interest Summer Stipend and Public Service Recognition for her work as a Law Fellow at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and a legal intern at the New York State Division of Human Rights. She also served as President of the Multicultural Law Students Association and was an active member of the Association for Public Interest Law.

As an LL.M. candidate in the Program on Law and Government, Ms. Alves is specializing in Immigration Law and Policy. She is admitted to the Massachusetts State Bar. Upon graduating from WCL, Ms. Alves plans to continue her legal career in Washington, D.C.

 

Lauren Dudley, Treasurer

Lauren Dudley is a full-time LL.M. student seeking a specialization in Law, Politics, and Legislation. A native of the Washington, D.C. are, she graduated in 2009 from the University of Maryland, College Park with honors in Government and Poltics. During Ms. Dudley's final semester of college she interned in the Capitol Hill office of Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards.

A 2012 graduate of the American University Washington College of Law, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the American University International Law Review and a senior staff member of the Legislation and Policy Brief. During law school, she served as a law clerk to Administrative Law Judges at the District of Columbia Office of Administrative Hearings, interned for Senator Benjamin L. Cardin on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, interned for the Honorable Reggie B. Walton at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and worked as a summer associate at an area law firm. For two years Ms. Dudley was a Research Dean's Fellow for the Legal Rhetoric Program and the War Crimes Resarch Office for one semester. This fall, she is a Graduate Legal Fellow for Professor Jamie Raskin and is serving as a legal fellow for the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Outside of school, she plays competitive rugby for the Maryland Exiles Women's Rugby team.

 

Brittany Roberts, Activities Director

Brittany Roberts and is from Miami, Florida and went to Florida State University where she earned a dual B.A. degree in International Affairs and Political Science and was a member of Phi Alpha Delta. In 2009, she attended Florida Coastal School of Law and graduated a semester early in December 2011. While at Florida Coastal, Ms. Roberts was a member of the Disability and Public Benefits Clinic for two semesters and was a member of Phi Delta Phi Legal Honors Society.

After graduating from law school, Ms. Roberts sat for the Alaska Bar Exam in February 2012 and became licensed in June 2012. During the summer, she interned at an appraisal management company. She is attending WCL for an LL.M. in Law and Government with a concentration in Law, Politics, and Legislation. She is currently working for the National Immigrant Women’s Advocacy Project where she is researching case law and drafting policy papers and additional materials about the Violence Against Women Act.

 


 

Luna Barakat, SJD Representative

Luna Barakat Executive Board Picture

Luna Barakat, an S.J.D. candidate at American University Washington College of Law, is completing her dissertation titled “Silent Corporate Complicity in Human Rights Violations Under Principles of Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Governance.” Her fields of study and professional expertise include: international human rights law and international humanitarian law.

Prior to joining the Washington College of Law’s S.J.D. program, Ms. Barakat led a legal practice in Israel that specialized in working with governmental and non-governmental actors to understand and promote their human rights obligations. She also participated in the Law & Business Fellowship Program at the Wharton School through which she worked at Reed Smith LLP, Philadelphia, on cases involving Guantanamo Bay detainees, asylum and death penalty cases. 

 

Lisa Neuder, Part-Time Representative

Lisa Neuder is a Montgomery County native and has lived in North Bethesda for five years. She is a lawyer with an MBA. A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law and the R.H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, she has served in both the executive and legislative branches. Lisa has worked in several positions within the U.S. Department of Treasury and as a Legislative Counsel for several members of Congress, both in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. She also has served as a political appointee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.

Lisa was recently selected to participate in the inaugural class of the D.C. Bar Leadership Academy (2013). She has received a number of awards for her service in the county including, from the County Executive for service to Community Action’s VITA and Financial Education programs for three consecutive years. She is an active member of the Legislative Committee for the Woman’s Democratic Club of Montgomery County and volunteers with the Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection. She has previously served as Treasurer and Board Member of Montgomery Women.
