    Join the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law for Human Rights Month, an annual event featuring conferences, workshops, a film festival, and a discussion of recent publications in the human rights sector.   • Team Competes in International Finals of WTO Moot Court Competition

    Students Margaret Kim, Semira Nikou, Lillyana Daza Jaller, and Matthew D'Orsi competed in the final round of the ELSA Moot Court Competition on WTO Law, held in Geneva, May 13-18. The AUWCL team represented the North America region alongside teams from Georgetown and Harvard. MORE More

    The Fulbright Program awards approximately 8,000 grants annually, allowing students, scholars, teachers, and professionals to study, teach, and conduct research at institutions worldwide.     The Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law will host the 19th Annual Inter-American Moot Court Competition May 18-23, co-sponsored by the Inter-American Court on Human Rights. Ninety-nine teams will participate from 27 countries, involving more than 300 students, professors, and human rights professionals. MORE More

  • Commencement Reception at the Organization of American States

    AUWCL and Dean Claudio Grossman will welcome graduates and guests to a reception celebrating student accomplishments, held at the Organization of American States on Saturday, May 17. A graduation brunch will be held Sunday, May 18 for faculty and guests, including members of the class of 1964 celebrating their 50th reunion, and legacy alumni recognizing this year's graduates.

  • Dean Grossman Presents at Geneva Conference on Treaty Bodies

    Dean Claudio Grossman will participate in a high-level conference on the outcome of the UN treaty body strengthening process Friday, May 9, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. As chair of both the UN Committee against Torture and the UN Human Rights Treaty Bodies, Grossman will address "Human Rights Treaty Bodies: Where to from Here?" The conference features renowned experts on human rights and the UN treaty body system and will be opened by  His Excellency Mr. Alexandre Fasel, permanent representative of Switzerland to the UN Office at Geneva.     On May 16, AUWCL is proud to host PASOS, a commencement celebration for graduating latino/a students from D.C.-area law schools. The event, held for six years at AUWCL, is sponsored by the Hispanic Bar Association of D.C. Foundation.

  • Faculty Memorandum to Senate Judiciary Committee

    AUWCL faculty and colleagues nationwide have sent a letter to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee about the discourse surrounding the nomination of Debo Adegbile as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights. Adegbile was criticized for his representation of an inmate on death row. The memo outlines the importance of right to counsel and pro bono representation to meet unmet legal needs.   • Immigrant Justice Clinic Report Recognized by CLEA

    The law school's Immigrant Justice Clinic (IJC) received an Honorable Mention for the Clinical Legal Education Association (CLEA) Award for Excellence in a Public Interest Case or Project for its "Taken for a Ride" report, highlighting the experiences of migrant guest workers in the traveling fair and carnival industries.
