  • Alumni Dinners Held in Santiago, San José, and Buenos Aires

    Dean Claudio Grossman will host alumni for dinner in Santiago, Chile on Sept. 2 at  Kilometro 0, and in San José, Costa Rica on Sept. 3 at Café Mundo. The Alumni Chapter of Buenos Aires gathered on Aug. 29.

  • AUWCL Announces Robert D. Reif Fellowship; Deadline Sept. 3

    AUWCL announces the Robert D. Reif Fellowship in Legal Ethics and Professional Values, sponsored by law firm Epstein Becker Green. The Fellowship, which honors the firm's longtime partner Robert Reif, will be awarded to the AUWCL student who submits the best essay on an important question of ethics and/or values confronting the legal profession. For more information, contact Associate Dean Mary Clark. The deadline to submit an essay is Sept. 3.

  • PIJIP Named New Home of Creative Commons United States

    The Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP) is the new home of Creative Commons United States (CC US), part of the Creative Commons Affiliate Network. Lead by PIJIP Director Michael Carroll, CC US promotes understanding of sharing through open licensing and other issues related to uses of Creative Commons licenses in the United States. MORE

  • Students, Faculty, and Staff Volunteer for "In My Backyard" Day of Service

    AUWCL is holding its annual In My Back Yard (IMBY) Public Service Day devoted to getting involved with public service in the local Washington, D.C. neighborhoods. On Tuesday, Aug. 20, students, faculty, and staff will volunteer their services at a number of city organizations and non-profit groups. The day is organized by the Public Interest/Public Service (PIPS) Scholars. MORE

  • AUWCL Welcomes New JD Students With Orientation Week

    This week AUWCL welcomes the entering class of new students, beginning with optional activities such as a  tour of National Monuments and the U.S. Capitol, First-Year Diversity Day, and the In My Backyard (IMBY) Public Service Day.  Official Orientation activities run Wednesday through Saturday and include student-led tours, receptions, SBA Student Organization Fair, Dean's BBQ, and sessions on financial aid, legal rhetoric, the Pence Law Library, and technology.   • Dinerstein Recognized by ABA Commission on Disability Rights

    Robert Dinerstein, professor and associate dean of experiential education, received the Paul G. Hearne Award for Disability Rights by the ABA Commission on Disability Rights.  The award recognizes Dinerstein for his more than 35 years of service as a disability rights advocate, scholar, and teacher.  MORE More

  • Center for Human Rights Hosts Briefings on the Hill

    This summer, the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law in conjunction with the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission of the U.S. House of Representatives, held a series of well-attended briefings on core human rights topics for congressional staff and interns. Presenters included the Center's Executive Director Hadar Harris, and Professors Richard Wilson and Diane Orentlicher. MORE More

  • Faculty Active at SEALS Annual Conference

    Faculty members are participating in the 2013 Annual Conference of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools, which features panel discussions and workshops on many legal topics from intellectual property law to emerging technologies in legal education. AUWCL faculty serving as presenters include: Associate Deans Robert Dinerstein, David Jaffe, Billie Jo Kaufman, and Stephen Vladeck, and Professors Jorge Contreras, Angela Davis, Christine Haight Farley, Jayesh Rathod, Brenda Smith, and Stephen Wermiel.   • Events Planned for Alumni Taking Virginia or Maryland Bar Exams

    The Office of Development and Alumni Relations will hold a lunch for alumni taking the Virginia Bar Exam, July 30 at the Roanoke Civic Center Coliseum. A reception will also be held for alumni following the Maryland Bar Exam, July 31 at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Baltimore. MORE More
