Summer Course Recap: Campaign 2020 and the Law Provides Election Year Insight

July 1, 2020

Each summer, AUWCL hosts specialized summer law institutes covering a range of legal topics. This year, the Program on Law and Government designed a dynamic new online program to guide participants through this important election year: Campaign 2020 and the Law.

Three one-credit courses were offered exploring topics, such as

  • Voting Rights with Nina Perales, vice president of litigation for MALDEF, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund,
  • Campaign Finance taught by former Federal Election Commission General Counsel Larry Noble, and
  • Election Security and Reform taught by Professor Kim Wehle of the University of Baltimore Law School.

Seventy-six students from around the country participated in the online courses.

“This is the year where legal skills related to campaigning and elections will be more relevant and important than ever before,” said Stephen Wermiel, professor of practice of law for the Program on Law and Government. “Our summer program provided a unique chance for students and practitioners to study the cutting edge issues in election law as they unfolded and from experts who are and have long been on the front lines of these topics.”
