Professor Jeremi Duru Appointed to NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports

American University Washington College of Law Professor Jeremi Duru has been appointed to the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports (CSMAS), effective Sept. 1, 2019.

The CSMAS is comprised of 22 members drawn from collegiate athletics, sports medicine, researchers, faculty, and student-athletes. The purpose of the committee is to provide expertise and leadership to the NCAA in order to promote a healthy and safe environment for student-athletes through research, education, collaboration, and policy development.

One of the nation’s foremost sports law authorities, Duru teaches in the areas of sports law, civil procedure, and employment discrimination at AUWCL. His book Advancing the Ball: Race, Reformation, and the Quest for Equal Coaching Opportunity in the NFL examines the NFL’s movement toward increased equality of opportunity for coaches and front office personnel. He is also co-author of Sports Law and Regulation: Cases and Materials (4th edition) and The Business of Sports Agents (3rd edition).

Duru serves as a member of both the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s Anti-Doping Review Board and the National Sports Law Institute’s Board of Advisors. He is a recipient of the National Bar Association’s Sports and Entertainment Lawyer of the Year Award, and a frequent expert commentator for numerous media outlets, including ESPN, CNN, BBC, MSNBC, Fox, The New York Times and The Washington Post.
