Professor Goldman Recognized by Government of Argentina

Professor GoldmanProfessor Robert K. Goldman was one of six U.S. citizens recognized by the government of Argentina for their contribution to the fight for human rights during the Argentine military dictatorship. Goldman was honored at a special event held March 23 at the Argentine embassy in Washington, D.C. Professor Juan Mendez, who was arrested and tortured by that military regime, also spoke at the event.

During his eight year tenure on the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, Goldman was the Commission’s Rapporteur on Argentina and with his colleagues, including Dean Claudio Grossman, decided many cases involving egregious human rights violations committed by Argentina’s military dictatorship. Three years ago, Goldman and Mendez were similarly honored by the government of Uruguay for their efforts to restore democracy in that country and combat impunity for systematic human rights violations committed by Uruguay’s military regime.
