Female Attorneys Discuss Career Journey, Advice during "Skadden: Women of Washington" Panel

April 12, 2018

Female attorneys from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flomm LLP shared their experience and career advice April 12 during the “Skadden: Women of Washington” panel discussion at American University Washington College of Law.

AUWCL alumnae Alexandra Arango ’15 and Jenna Godfrey ’11, as well as Georgetown Law alumna Jennifer Gindin ’14, discussed Skadden’s Women’s Initiative and their professional journeys into big law.

Taking every opportunity you are presented with and seeing each as a learning experience is important Godfrey said during the panel, hosted by Skadden and organized by AUWCL’s Women and the Law Program.

“Don’t say no until the offer is in your hand,” Godfrey said. “Always go through with the process. At the end of the day, the more interviews you can go on the better, and don’t worry about the end result until you actually have something to decide on."

Arango told attendees having a strong mentor is key.

“Finding mentors is super important,” she said. “If you don’t have one, get one. There are alumni who are on mentorship lists waiting to give you advice.”
