Diana Santos ’08, an immigration attorney in private practice in the Washington, D.C. area, will present the monthly Alumni Webinar in conjunction with the Office of Career and Professional Development on Wednesday, July 26. The Webinar is titled “Representing Unaccompanied Minors Under the Trump Administration – Exploring the Effects of Canales vs. Torres,” and will have a focus on Special Immigrant Juvenile Status in Virginia in light of the recent Canales vs. Torres decision. Alumni can sign up for the Webinar here.

Upon entering private practice Santos has focused exclusively on immigration law, and has represented hundreds of immigrants in hearings before the immigration court and at interviews conducted by USCIS, as well as on appeal before the Board of Immigration Appeals.

“We are excited to have Diana share her experiences on recent changes in immigration laws and procedures,” said Matthew Pascocello, director of alumni counseling in the Office of Career and Professional Development, and host of the Alumni Webinar Series. “Diana has also been featured as the Alumni Mentor-of-the-Month, and it’s a real pleasure to showcase our graduates’ practices by featuring them in our weekly Alumni Listserv.

As a first-generation born American, Santos knows firsthand the struggles and sacrifices of immigrants who come to the United States in order to make a better life for themselves and their families. Having grown up in a family of immigrants, she understands language and cultural barriers can make it difficult to navigate the justice system and to exercise your rights. With this understanding in mind, she is a compassionate advocate who will fight passionately to protect you and your family from being deported and help you obtain legal status in the United States. Diana holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester and is a member of the Maryland and Virginia bars.
