AUWCL Students and Staff Volunteer at Capital Area Food Bank

Eight students and staff volunteerEight AUWCL students and staff members joined others from five area law schools for the first-ever Law School Service Day at the Capital Area Food Bank. The group put together weekend food bags for children and families in need.

Collectively, the local law schools bagged 2200 weekend meals for D.C.-area families in just a few hours -- a Capital Area Food Bank record.

"The Service Day was great because it was interactive and informative," said second-year student Whitley Granberry. "We participated in a simulation, which led us through a day of trying to request assistance from a bank, a food pantry, local government agencies, and the local food store with extremely limited funds.  All of the schools brought the spirit of collegial competition to the bagging wars."

For their service, AUWCL participants earned 1000 points toward the Food From the Bar Campaign, "the legal community’s response to hunger in Washington, D.C."
