AUWCL Hosts Three Days of FTC Hearings

Nov. 6, 2018

American University Washington College of Law is hosting the sixth session of the Federal Trade Commission’s hearings on Competition and Consumer Protection in the 21st Century, Nov. 6-8, 2018. The hearings, taking place in Warren Building NT01, will focus on the role that data plays in competition, innovation, and privacy protection.

AUWCL Professor Jonathan Baker, who specializes in antitrust and economic regulation, will provide welcoming remarks at 9:10 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 6, and will speak on a panel on “Antitrust Analysis of Data” on Wednesday. The full agenda, featuring dozens of top experts from universities, law firms, and the FTC, is available here.

“This week’s hearings are important,” according to Baker, “to help the FTC understand and address the novel and distinctive antitrust and consumer protection challenges presented by information technology and the growth of online platforms.”

Baker served as the Director of the Bureau of Economics at the Federal Trade Commission from 1995 to 1998 and as the Chief Economist of the Federal Communications Commission from 2009 to 2011.
