"Winning the New York Regional Competition and Best Brief Award have been highlights of our law school careers,” the duo said in a joint statement. “We were pleased to see our hard work from the past several months pay off. This competition taught us the true power of team work. We perfectly complemented each other and maintained an optimistic attitude throughout this process—the result was a powerful force.”

Mattioni and LaParne expressed gratitude for their faculty coach Professor Christine Farley, faculty director of AUWCL’s Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property, who “gave countless hours of her time to help us prepare.” The pair also cited alumni coaches David Najera '17 and Joanna Scleidorovich '17, adding that their past experience in the competition was invaluable.

“The WCL community, through various students and faculty, further assisted us in polishing our oral arguments, adding the final touch to a winning strategy,” Mattioni and LaParne said. “We consider ourselves fortunate to have our passion for trademark law and appellate advocacy be met with such enthusiastic and unflagging support. We are ecstatic to be representing WCL at the national finals in March.”

The national final competition will take place March 16 in Washington, D.C.
