American University Washington College of Law participated in the 30th Anniversary of American Heart Association’s Lawyers Have Heart (LHH) race, held virtually this year June 12-14. It was the fifth consecutive year for AUWCL to field a team, which consisted of 95 members of the law school community – faculty, staff, students, friends and family – that joined the movement to be “Healthy for Good,” meant to inspire lasting change in lawyer health and wellness, one small step at a time. AUWCL’s participation exceeded by far any law school in the country and was one of the largest teams overall.

“My ‘why’ has been the tie to mental health: if we are taking care of ourselves mentally, it contributes to the physical well-being, inclusive of the heart. I like to run, so why not combine these passions,” Jaffe said. Jaffe has been a national leader over the last decade on law student well-being.

AUWCL participants helped the LHH community raise over $675,000 for the American Heart Association during this year’s virtual event.

The funds raised through LHH have helped the Association make an immediate impact in the local DC community by supporting COVID efforts, including financial support to underserved populations hardest hit by the economic impact of COVID-19 and that require rapid dissemination of resources and financial support, and access to healthy food. Other efforts include support for patients and public health, urgent scientific research, and support for the front lines of healthcare.
