July 12, 2022

Dean Roger A. Fairfax, Jr. has named Heather Hughes as Senior Associate Dean for Faculty & Academic Affairs at Washington College of Law.

Hughes, a professor of law, comes to the role after teaching commercial, business, and property law at WCL since 2007.

“I look forward to facilitating the collective vision of the faculty and the dean, and to advancing the interests of the students, faculty and staff, to reach their full potential,” Hughes said. “This is an exciting evolution for me, an opportunity to expand my skill set while serving this community that I love so much.”

“Professor Hughes is an extraordinary scholar and teacher, and we are thrilled that she will use her wisdom and experience to lead an office that supports students, staff, and faculty,” said Dean Fairfax.   “I look forward to collaborating with her as we help usher in WCL’s bright future.”

Before joining WCL, Hughes practiced in the business department at Morrison & Foerster LLP and was an assistant professor as part of the founding faculty at FIU College of Law. Professor Hughes won, in 2019, the WCL Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2017 she won the Edwin A. Mooers Scholar Award and, in 2010, the Emalee C. Godsey Scholar Award.

Hughes will continue teaching in her new role, offering a course in secured transactions this fall, and a new seminar on critical perspectives on ESG in the spring.
