American University Washington College of Law Wins Summit Cup Mock Trial Competition

American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) is proud to announce a championship win at the Summit Cup Mock Trial Competition hosted by the University of Denver Sturm College of Law from Oct. 4-8. The prestigious competition is open only to the top mock trial teams around the United States based on performance in 12 major tournaments during the year.

The AUWCL team consisted of part-time 4L Alex Raby and 3L Cara Mazor, and was coached by Zac Ista '12 and Adjunct Professor LisaMarie Freitas. The team competed against students from Northwestern University School of Law, Loyola University Chicago School of Law, Georgia State University School of Law, and Drexel University Kline School of Law.

Beyond the team’s first place finish, Cara Mazor received the Best Advocate Award, which is given to the highest scoring advocate in the entire competition.

The Stephen S. Weinstein Trial Advocacy Program provides support to the Mock Trial Honor Society, Moot Court Honor Society, and Alternative Dispute Resolution Honor Society by providing coaches in order to help students succeed in national competitions.
