Center for Human Rights Presents Annual Congressional Human Rights Summer Series
On Tuesday June 6, the Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law, in cooperation with the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission (TLHRC), launched the 2017 Congressional Human Rights Summer Series on Capitol Hill. AUWCL faculty will present briefings on select human rights topics for Congressional staff and interns throughout the summer, examining how and why these topics are relevant to the work of the U.S. Congress.

On Sunday, May 21, 2017, American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) welcomed Bryan Stevenson, founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), as its 2017 Commencement speaker. Stevenson addressed a packed crowd at Bender Arena gathered to celebrate the Spring 2017 class, which included 346 students graduating with a Juris Doctor (JD), 47 with a Master of Laws (LL.M.), and 2 with a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD).

Professor Cynthia Jones gave two lectures on Wednesday, May 17, at the Tenth Circuit Judicial Conference in Park City, Utah. The training was for all of the judges of the 10th Circuit-- the U.S. District Court and U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Professor Jones' presentation focused on upcoming changes to the Federal Rules of Evidence and recent United States Supreme Court cases.
