From March 31 to April 1, the law school hosted the 20th Meeting of the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization’s (ITSO) Advisory Committee. Comprised of 23 of the 149 Parties to the ITSO Agreement, the Advisory Committee convenes between ITSO’s Assembly of Parties and gives advice and feedback to the Director General of ITSO between Assembly of Parties.

On March 30, American University Washington College of Law will sponsor the 18th Annual Grotius Lecture as part of the opening of the American Society of International Law’s (ASIL) 110th Annual Meeting. ASIL’s meeting theme, “Charting New Frontiers in International Law,” provides the focus for over 40 keynote addresses, panels, and programs featuring more than 100 speakers from around the world. 

On March 24, the American University Washington College of Law Equal Justice Foundation (EJF), a nonprofit student-run organization established in 1989, will host its annual Public Interest Auction to help raise funds to award scholarships to promote public interest law and further student interest in the field. 

On March 21, 2016 the Program on Law & Government at American University Washington College of Law and the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico School of Law co-hosted a panel, “Puerto Rico’s Public Debt and Political Status: Puerto Rico v. Sanchez Valle & Puerto Rico v. Franklin California Tax-Free Trust.”

Congratulations to 3Ls Ashley Nickel, Naomi Ahsan, Semp Sooriakumar, and Tiffany Sommadossi on their success in the 13th Annual Willem C. Vis East Moot Court Competition in Hong Kong. Ahsan won the Neil T. Kaplan Award for Best Oral Advocate, while Sommadossi and Sooriakumar both received honorable mentions for the Best Oral Advocate Award.  Overall, the team won 16th Best Oral Team out of 115 teams from 31 countries.
