On Thursday, April 13, AUWCL hosted the Eighteenth Annual Peter M. Cicchino Public Service Awards Dinner. This annual event, named in honor of the life and legacy of Professor Peter M. Cicchino, highlights the work of public interest advocates and awardees and recognizes those who have dedicated their time in service of others. Vincent Warren, executive director of the Center for Constitutional Rights was the keynote speaker.

On April 12, AUWCL proudly sponsored the 19th Annual Grotius Lecture opening the American Society of International Law's 111th Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. Leading and emerging voices in international legal scholarship, policy, and practice gathered to discuss this year's theme, "What International Law Values." This year's Grotius Lecturer was David Armitage, Lloyd C. Blankfein Professor of History at Harvard University. Mary Dudziak, Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Law, Emory University School of Law was the Distinguished Discussant for the Lecture, and AUWCL Dean Camille A. Nelson  moderated the event.

On March 29, Law Librarian of Congress Jane Sánchez ’89 addressed attendees at American University Washington College of Law’s 20th Annual Hispanic Law Conference awards dinner. In her remarks, Sánchez stressed the connection between the Law Library’s work and James Madison’s famous quote that is inscribed on the walls of the Madison Building, “Knowledge will forever govern ignorance and a people who mean to be their own governours (sic) must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.”
