Notice & Comment Writing Workshop. Title IX

12:00PM - 01:00PM Tenley Campus - Yuma Y115 Classroom

Learn how to write an effective comment to proposed regulations that directly impact you as a student!

The US Department of Education recently proposed an overhaul to the rules governing campus sexual assault. The proposed revisions aim to reduce the liability of colleges and universities for investigating sexual misconduct claims, change the process by which those claims are investigated and handled, and change the existing definitions of sexual harassment and assault. Comments to the proposed regulations are due to Department of Education by January 28, 2019.

Please join us for pizza and a workshop designed to help you learn how to write your own comment to these proposed regulations. Professor Daniela Kraiem, Women and the Law Program, will provide a brief overview of the substance of the proposed changes. Rebecca O’Connor in OCPD (and former Vice President of Public Policy, RAINN) will share her “Best Practices in Commenting” (e.g.   How to best approach the commenting process; What tone is most appropriate and effective in making comments; Best practices for invoking a personal connection to the topic; and Selecting points for legal or policy analysis). By the end of the workshop, you should have the information and skills you need to write a comment. All are welcome!
