Community Lawyering & Housing Navigators Pro Bono Project Training

12:00PM - 01:00PM Tenley Campus - Warren N103 Seminar Room
Housing Counseling Services is a DC non-profit that provides comprehensive housing counseling, training, and advocacy for low- and moderate- income home buyers, home owners, and tenants. The Tenant Services Department of HCS assists tenants and tenant associations with a variety of housing issues such as poor housing conditions, sale of the building, and substantial rent increases.Law students will be educating tenants who are vulnerable to displacement about their tenant rights, through targeted door-to-door canvassing outreach, accompanied by a seasoned tenant organizer. Law student volunteers assist by providing  "Know Your Rights" information to tenants and making referrals for more specific issues that come up. HCS asks that participants commit to doing outreach at least 2-3 times during the semester. They will set up 1-2 dates per month, and will try to schedule them around students’ availability. Each outreach session will last about 2 hours, not including travel time. You must attend the training to participate in this project. RSVP for the training on MyWCL.
