Colombia's Groundbreaking Transitional Justice

06:00PM - 07:15PM Tenley Campus - Warren N101 Classroom

Colombia's Groundbreaking Transitional Justice: A Conversation with the Hon. Judge Julieta Lemaitre and Professor Juan Mendez

After four years of negotiations, Colombia signed a Peace Agreement with the FARC-EP, ending a fifty-year war. The Peace Agreement included the groundbreaking design for a transitional justice system, the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, which must try both former guerrilla members and members of the Colombian Armed Forces accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity.  Join Julieta Lemaitre, a judge at the Justice Chambers of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, and Professor Juan Mendez, for a roundtable discussion on this groundbreaking and ambitious attempt to adopt restorative justice measures, while preserving victims' rights to truth, justice and reparations.
