The Wall and the Gate: Israel, Palestine, and the Legal Battle for Human Rights

06:00PM - 07:30PM Washington College of Law NT01

Join the Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law and the International Human Rights Law Clinic, in partnership with the New Israel Fund, the Foundation for Middle East Peace, and Americans for Peace Now for a discussion with author Michael Sfard about his new book, "The Wall and the Gate: Israel, Palestine, and the Legal Battle for Human Rights".

This groundbreaking work examines the ethics and challenges of legal work for human rights. Recounting key cases and issues, Sfard lays bare the reality of the occupation and exposes its surreal legal structures. He offers both a moral reckoning with the occupation and a blueprint for a hopeful future. Author Michael Sfard is one of Israel’s leading human rights lawyers. A former conscientious objector, he received the Emil Grunzweig Human Rights Award.

Sfard will be joined by Lara Friedman, president of the Foundation for Middle East Peace.  Friedman is a leading authority on U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, with particular focus on the Israeli-Arab conflict, and settlements and Jerusalem.

Reception to follow. Books will also be available for signing after the discussion.  Space is limited, so please RSVP: http://bit.ly/2AHmP1D
