Public Commemoration of the World Bank Inspection Panel 30th Anniversary Celebration

02:00PM - 05:30PM Ceremonial Classroom - Room NT01
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the creation of the World Bank's Inspection Panel, the first independent accountability mechanism at a multilateral development bank. The establishment of the Inspection Panel created a new doctrine of citizen-driven accountability. The Panel’s creation established a precedent that has been followed by similar mechanisms in more than 20 international organizations.

To mark this significant milestone in international development, the Centre for Advancement of Scholarship, University of Pretoria, American University Washington College of Law, and the World Bank Inspection Panel will co-host the “World Bank Inspection Panel 30th Anniversary Celebration” on April 6, 2023. We are delighted to invite you to participate in this public event, which will be held at the Washington College of Law in Washington, DC.

The program will begin at 2:00 PM and comprises three sessions, preceded by a welcome and introductory remarks by Ramanie Kunanayagam, the Panel Chair, and David Hunter, Professor, Washington School of Law. The first session will feature expert presenters sharing lessons learned during the first three decades of the Inspection Panel’s operations. The second session will explore the future of compliance and the search for remedy. The third and final session, beginning at 5:30 PM, will consist of a moderated fireside chat with two prominent speakers addressing accountability in international development, facilitated by Professor Danny Bradlow. The celebration will conclude with a reception in The Atrium of the Washington College of Law, 6:30-7:30 PM.
