SCOTUS Series: Helsinn Healthcare S.A. v. Teva Pharmaceuticals USA Inc.

Join us for this semester's first SCOTUS series panel discussion and reception.  AUWCL regularly invites counsel of record and counsel for selected amici to offer post-argument reflections in intellectual property (and related) cases heard by the Supreme Court.  PIJIP hosts these events on the afternoon of oral argument before the Court.  This panel will discuss the issue: Whether, under the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act, an inventor's sale of an invention to a third party that is obligated to keep the invention confidential qualifies as prior art for the purpose of determining the patentability of the invention. Business Basics Bootcamp - Day 1

All Day Washington College of Law

Please join us for a two-day intensive bootcamp to introduce law students to business concepts. It is designed for students who have very little existing business knowledge, but students with more experience or knowledge are welcome.

The Bootcamp is an intensive classroom experience, consisting of 14 hours in the classroom led by AUWCL Professor Ken Anderson and distinguished guest instructors covering:

  • Fundamental business concepts and skills
  • Interpreting financial statements
  • Distinguishing amongst a variety of business entities
  • Understating a number of types of financing for business ventures  

The event is open to 1L. 2L, and 3L students at AUWCL.

Supreme Court Series: Fourth Estate Public Benefit Corp v. Wall-Street.com

Join us for this semester's first SCOTUS series panel discussion and reception on Fourth Estate Public Benefit Corp v. Wall-Street.com.  AUWCL regularly invites counsel of record and counsel for selected amici to offer post-argument reflections in intellectual property (and related) cases heard by the Supreme Court.  PIJIP hosts these events on the afternoon of oral argument before the Court.  This panel will discuss the issue: whether the “registration of [a] copyright claim has been made” within the meaning of 17 U.S.C. § 411(a) when the copyright holder delivers the required application, deposit, and fee to the Copyright Office, as the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the 5th and 9th Circuits have held, or only once the Copyright Office acts on that application, as the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 10th and, in the decision below, the 11th Circuits have held.
