In Children's Best Interests: Advancing a Fundamental Standard for the Treatment of Immigrant Children

09:00AM - 02:30PM Tenley Campus - Yuma YT01 Grossman Hall

This symposium will convene leading scholars, legal and health practitioners, policymakers, and advocates to bring to the fore of the public discussion the U.S. government’s failures to provide immigrant children with treatment consistent with standards widely accepted under domestic law and international norms. The 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child offers an opportune moment to reflect on a historic commitment to children’s well-being and to cogently articulate best policies and practices to protect the welfare of children in the U.S. immigration system.

Co-sponsored by the American University Center for Latin American & Latino Studies, American University Washington College of Law, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
