Consumer Protection Pro Bono Project Training with Tzedeck DC

12:00PM - 01:00PM Tenley Campus - Warren N103 Seminar Room

Tzedek DC is an independent public interest center  with a mission is to safeguard the rights of low-income D.C. residents dealing with often unjust, abusive, and illegal debt collection practices, as well as other consumer protection problems like credit reporting issues, identity theft, scams and predatory lending. Because these justice violations are disproportionately concentrated in communities of color, debt-related abuses are a major civil rights issue as well. Tzedek DC seeks to increase financial stability and increase access to the civil justice system. Tzedek DC does so through our three interlocking strategies of: (i) direct legal services; (ii) community outreach and education; and (iii) legislative advocacy. Students who volunteer with Tzedek may be asked to conduct intake, work with clients to write personal declaration, conduct and analyze legal research, write letters to clients, synthesize studies, work on client or organization testimony for legislative hearings, and help create community legal education materials. RSVP for the training on MYWCL.(Law students must attend the training before participating in the pro bono project).
