Dean Grossman Meets with Leaders of International Telecommunication Union in Geneva

Dean Grossman met with leaders of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), including Brahima Sanou, director of ITU BDT; Sofie Maddens, head of the regulatory and market environment division; Cosmas Zavazava, department chief, PKM; and Kemal Huseinovic, director general at the Communications Regulatory Agency of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The ITU is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICT) working to develop standards to ensure networks and technologies are seamlessly interconnected, and striving to improve access to ICT to underserved communities worldwide.

The purpose of the meeting was multifold and discussions included:

  • The proposal of training and summer courses provided by AUWCL,
  • Externship and job opportunities for AUWCL students, and
  • Support of the international telecommunications unit of the PIOLD program, that will be holding a summer session in Geneva in July on trade, intellectual property, and international labor and human rights issues.

Before the ITU meeting, Dean Grossman met with heads of non-governmental organizations from across the globe on issues involving provisions against torture and other cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment. A webcast of this meeting will be made available next week.

While in Geneva, he has also had dinner with several American University Washington College of Law alumni.
