Securing the Foundations of AI - Ensuring Data Center Security

As they say, data is the proverbial fuel needed to drive AI generation. Adulterating that fuel, that is, compromising the data, risks the integrity of AI models and possible failures in their application which can lead to catastrophic results. The sheer volume and nature of the data collected and fed to AI models is often sensitive, itself raising privacy and security risks. At the same time, to drive the AI revolution, tech companies are investing billions of dollars to build datacenters, both in the U.S. and abroad, that are vulnerable to attack, exploitation and sabotage. These risks are not hypothetical. According to America’s Superintelligence Project’s recently released report, the Chinese have “almost certainly” infiltrated all of the U.S.’s frontier AI labs.

The press to build more data centers with increasing capacity will only accelerate under the current administration. As set out in it’s recently released AI Action Plan, the U.S. will “build and maintain vast AI infrastructure and the energy to power it.” The expansion of this critical infrastructure must, at the same time, be secured. As data centers proliferate, it is essential to build security into every stage of their development. Security considerations such as energy distribution, physical location, workforce issues, supply chain integrity, and technical protections must be integrated from early planning stages and maintained throughout the operational lifecycle.

Building in security and resilience from the outset will not be easy, and raises a number of logistical, technical, legal and policy issues. This one day conference will tackle these issues across the spectrum of AI data center security vulnerabilities, from insider threats, to physical security, supply chain, cybersecurity, and more. A deep lineup of experts will discuss the legal, technical, and policy priorities and challenges for securing data centers to ensure the United States’ competitive advantage and national security.
