Prof. Flynn Presents PIJIP Survey of National Copyright Exceptions for Research to the World Intellectual Property Organization

Map showing differences in copyright exceptions for research purposes

Director Sean Flynn presented preliminary results of PIJIP's work mapping copyright research rights to a recent WIPO seminar. The work shows that researchers can make and use a TDM database including copyrighted materials for a non-commercial project in most countries, depending on the interpretation of private reproduction rights. But in a few countries there are clear limits, for example because exceptions are limited only to “excerpts” or “quotations” of works.
