The Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP) was among the founding partners in the creation of the Open COVID Pledge to make intellectual property available for use in ending the COVID-19 pandemic and minimizing the impact of the disease.

The Open COVID Pledge was created by a group of scientists, lawyers, entrepreneurs and individuals working to promote the removal of obstacles involving intellectual property in the fight against COVID-19. The leaders of the initiative include Professor Jorge Contreras, a Research and Policy Fellow at PIJIP and Principal Investigatory of our Patent Pledges project.

The Open COVID pledge has already attracted several major participants, including Intel Corporation, the world’s leading semiconductor and electronics manufacturer. Intel has committed its global portfolio of over 72,000 patents to the fight against COVID-19.
