University of Turin

Andrés Izquierdo, Counsel at the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP), was the featured speaker at an international conference focused on the newly adopted WIPO Riyadh Design Law Treaty (DLT). The Università degli Studi di Torino hosted the conference in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Turin School of Management, OREP, and in collaboration with Annali Italiani del Diritto d’Autore, della Cultura e dello Spettacolo (AIDA).

The panel was moderated by Chief Justice Silvia Vitro of the Turin Intellectual Property Court and featured leading scholars in intellectual property law, including Professor Estelle Derclaye (University of Nottingham), Professor Jorge Contreras (University of Utah), and Professor Irene Calboli (Texas A&M University), among others.

In his talk, Izquierdo reflected on his role in providing legal technical assistance during the DLT negotiations in Saudi Arabia, where he supported a coalition of developing countries. He emphasized the treaty’s significance in shaping the global design rights framework and underscored the value of inclusive, multilateral engagement in international IP policymaking.
