Once again, American University has been ranked in the Top 10 for Intellectual Property by US News & World Report. No doubt our 45 IP courses, including the first in the nation IP Clinic (tied with Berkeley), 18 full time IP and tech faculty, 7 IP and tech student groups, including our student-run IP journal, specialized LL.M. in IP, and numerous IP and tech events, averaging one per week, have kept us in the top 10. For these reasons, American was also graded A+ in IP by National Jurist/preLaw Magazine.

These rankings were tabulated even before we launched our new Program on Technology, Law, and Security, and hired 4 new faculty with expertise in privacy, big data, artificial intelligence, internet governance, and cyber security. This new program joins our path-breaking Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP), internationally recognized as one of the most impactful progressive think tanks on IP and information law.

With the nation’s top IP judges and officials a metro ride away – and often teaching our students – Washington D.C. is simply one of the best places in the world to study IP. Students can also connect with one of the most extensive alumni networks in IP and tech. Our summer sessions in policy hubs Washington D.C. and Geneva, Switzerland, allow students to earn credits through concentrated short courses on cutting edge topics.
