Lanham Act Webinar

On March 2, 2016, PIJIP partnered with the Federal Circuit Bar Association, and in particular the PTO Committee, to present a webinar titled, “Scandalous, Immoral or Disparaging Intellectual Property Under Lanham Act Section 2(a): History, Precedent, and Recent Decisions Such As In re Tam, In re Brunetti.”  The webinar was broadcast globally from American University and featured presentations by Professor Christine Haight Farley, American University Washington College of Law, Arthur B. Spitzer, Legal Director, American Civil Liberties Union of the Nation’s Capital, and Charan Brahma, Troutman Sanders.  The webinar was introduced by Patrick C. Keane, Buchanan Ingersoll and Chair PTO Committee and moderated by Omar A. Khan, Counsel, WilmerHale.  Speakers provided the substantive background and precedent regarding Lanham Act Section 2(a), perspectives on the recent decisions in Pro-Football v. Blackhorse, In re Tam and In re Brunetti, positions on the constitutionality of Section 2(a), and implications of these cases on IP practice going forward.
