On February 3, 2018, Professor Steve Wermiel received the Robert F. Drinan Award in Vancouver from the ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice.

On Jan. 31, Stephen Wermiel, professor at American University Washington College of Law joined Lara Nott, executive director at First Amendment Center of the Newseum Institute, and Sandy Johnson, President and COO of National Press Foundation to discuss the origins and evolution of the First Amendment.

On Jan. 18, Walter Shaub ’96 addressed a packed audience in Claudio Grossman Hall with“An Ethics Agenda for 2018.” Shaub, who was appointed director of the Office of Government Ethics by President Obama in January 2013 and resigned from that post in July 2017, is senior director, ethics, at the Campaign Legal Center.

A Program with Local Origins Continues to Grow in National Stature. Founded in 1999, The Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project has grown exponentially to become a nationally recognized law-related education initiative with chapters in 19 law schools.

On Friday, October 27, 2017, the Program on Law and Government and the Washington Center for Equitable Growth hosted a conference focused on whether there is scope for more vigorous enforcement of existing law. This event featured nine examples of enforcement possibilities presented by leading scholars in antitrust law and economics. See below for videos of the conference.
