On September 12, 2019, AUWCL’s Syrian Initiative to Combat Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) hosted the panel discussion “Combatting Sexual & Gender-Based Violence in Syria: How Can We Play a Role?” Professor Padideh Ala’i delivered the opening remarks and Professor Susana SáCouto moderated the event.

On March 27, American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL)  sponsored the 21st Annual Grotius Lecture opening the American Society of International Law’s (ASIL) 113th Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. Over 700 leading and emerging voices in international legal scholarship, policy, and practice gathered to hear Martti Koskenniemi give his lecture entitled, “Enchanted by the Tools? International Law and the Enlightenment.” Anne Orford presented as Distinguished Discussant.

The International and Comparative Legal Studies’ Abroad Program hosted the 2019 International Legal Education Abroad and LL.M. Administrators Conference: "Affirming the Value of Global Education!" Over 70 speakers and attendees, including faculty and practitioners from 65 institutions around the world discussed the future of international programs, the importance of international LL.M. and study abroad programs.

Join the Trade, Investment, and Development Program for its third annual Wenger Distinguished Lecture on Trade on October 11, 2018. This year’s lecture will feature Rufus Yerxa, President of the National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC), a leading trade association dedicated to advancing the interests of U.S. companies in international commerce. Yerxa has made many of the headlines lately, contributing his decades of trade expertise to tackling the rising challenges as the global tension escalates.

The Society for International Economic Law (SIEL) 6th Biennial Global Conference, hosted by SIEL and American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL), will take place July 12-14, 2018 in Washington D.C. SIEL is the world’s only global scholarly society in international economic law. The SIEL Biennial Conference, one of the largest and most important conferences in the area of international economic law, will be hosted for the first time in the U.S. at AUWCL.

The Symposium on Salient Issues in International Commercial Arbitration is organized biannually by the Center on International Commercial Arbitration with the purpose of presenting a global perspective of current developments in international arbitration throughout the world.

This lecture, now in its second year, is part of the Wenger Lecture Series on International Trade funded by the Henry E. & Consuelo S. Wenger Foundation. This endowment by the family of a WCL alum aims exclusively to promote study and research of international trade law, as well as to train young international trade lawyers. The 2017 Second Wenger Annual Lecture on Trade will feature the esteemed speaker Ambassador Alan Wolff, Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
