2020 Summer Programs and Fall Activities with the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law

This year, the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law’s 2020 summer programs and initiatives hoped to enhance and increase communication in the human rights community. Over the past 25 years the Academy has developed key initiatives and programs that offer relevant, empowering training for scholars, practitioners, and students interested in the international human rights system and created key spaces for discussions of the most relevant issues in the human rights field. During this complex time, the Academy is determined to fulfill its mission for the promotion and awareness of human rights.

Celebrating International Migrants Day

On December 18 the United Nations celebrates International Migrants Day. The purpose of the day is to remember people who have been displaced due to armed conflict, famine and other natural and man-made disasters. Given the growing importance of the issue, the Academy has elected “The Protection of Migrants under International Human Rights Law” as the topic for two of our programs in 2019: the 24th Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court Competition and the Human Rights Essay Award.

Professor Claudio Grossman Honored by Chilean President and the Senate of Chile

Last week, Academy’s Co-Chair, Dean Emeritus and Professor Claudio Grossman was honored by Chilean President Sebastián Piñera, and the Jewish community of Chile with the “Espíritu Maccabí Award”. The award was given in recognition for his work in defense of human rights. The Senate of Chile also recognized Professor Grossman’s work at the ICJ during a plenary session held on December 11.
