So that Participants get the full benefit of being in Washington, D.C. the Academy organizes the following events. Most events are optional and have an additional cost. All participants are encouraged to participate in these events as well as those that are part of Human Rights Month since these are designed to complement classes.
Program Activities at Academy
Orientation will take place at 5:00 pm. Students will be given an orientation regarding courses, events and other program information. It is mandatory to attend.
Visit the main building of the Organization of American States and learn more about the organizations mission, to achieve among its members states "an order of peace and justice, to promote their solidarity, to strengthen their collaboration, and to defend their sovereignty, their territorial integrity, and their independence."
Take a bus tour of Washington DC's most famous monuments as they light up at night. The tour will include the National Mall, the White House, The Smithsonian Museums, the US Capitol, Lincoln Memorial and maybe the FDR and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorials if we have enough time.

Visit the organization in charge of promoting the observance and defense of human rights in the member countries of the Inter-American System. In Spanish only. Time: 10:30 - 2PM
Celebrate the end of the program and participate in a closing ceremony and reception immediately following. Students will receive the certificates of attendance at this ceremony. Time: 7:00 pm
