My name is Rachel Buntrock, and I am a 2L who will graduate in May of 2019. This past year, I learned about the Kovler Project and decided to apply in part because of my background, in which I researched and wrote case studies on the legal ramifications of the use of torture during the Bush administration, but I also applied because I thought it would be an incredible opportunity to do substantive research in preparation for the CAT committee sessions in Geneva.
Further, the Kovler Project fits well within my interests and will be a great learning experience as I would like to practice international law in the future. All in all, I am truly excited and fortunate to be participating in the Kovler Project, because, as Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," and there is no better way to remind myself of that than to be one small part of an effort to ensure compliance with the Convention against Torture.
