I applied to the Kovler Project to deepen my understanding of enforcement mechanisms within the human rights field. Prior to law school, I assisted in writing UN country reports while working for The Carter Center in Congo (DRC) and so this presented a unique opportunity to participate in the process from a new angle. I am eager to collaborate with my colleagues to better comprehend the intricacies of states’ participation in the UN Convention Against Torture, as well as demand that they respect their commitments to it. As a participant in the Kovler Project, I hope to leave this experience a more well-rounded and effective advocate as I pursue a career in international human rights law, focusing on Central Africa.

Ubuntu…’I am because we are.’ Far too often people think of themselves as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world.
