I applied to the Kovler Project because it provided an opportunity to go beyond just learning about states’ practices and human rights obligations. It provides a chance for budding lawyers like me to play an integral role in holding states accountable for failing to meet their obligations under the Convention Against Torture and in demanding that they do better.
The Kovler Project experience will make me a better researcher, writer, and overall better human rights advocate and lawyer. In the long term, I believe the skills and connections I will develop through the experience will help me to get to positions where I can make truly tangible differences in the field of international law and in the lives of those affected by the most heinous crimes.
