Business Law Review Holds Spring Symposium Focused on Tax Cuts and Jobs Act

May 18, 2018

On April 2, the American University Business Law Review (“AUBLR”) held its Spring 2018 Symposium, “The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act: Will it Stimulate Global and Domestic Markets?"

The event included partners from major law firms, including AUWCL alumnus Scott Levine (a partner at Jones Day), and professors from AUWCL and AU’s Kogod School of Business. There was an informative and spirited discussion regarding the most significant reform of the United States Tax Code in 30 years.

The symposium, which featured panelists in the public and private sectors, specifically addressed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act’s domestic business implications, its effects on international markets, and its impact on the domestic housing market. The panelists included Greg Jenner, a former assistant secretary of the United States Treasury, and a partner at Stoel Rives LLP; Kathy Orton, a Washington Post reporter and the web editor for the newspaper’s real estate section; and Manal Corwin, principal and national leader for international tax at KPMG.

"I believe that this symposium was vital in expanding AUWCL's scope in the Washington D.C. legal and business community," said 3L Joshua Arons, symposium editor. "Further, this symposium discussed a highly relevant and controversial topic which will affect citizens of the United States and members of the global community."
