AUWCL Holds Series of Arbitration Events Beginning Oct. 5
The Center on International Commercial Arbitration is hosting an outstanding series of events this fall, starting with the 12th Annual International Commercial Arbitration Lecture Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, 5:30 p.m. at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP. The 2017 Annual Lecture will be presented by Pierre Mayer, emeritus professor at the University of Paris I and international arbitrator. The lecture is sponsored by Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP. It is free but advanced registration is required.

As part of the law school’s ongoing effort to assist students interested in growing practice areas, the Externship Program is sponsoring a series of mini-externship fairs again this fall. The fairs will connect upper level students with a wide range of employers – government agencies, nonprofit organizations, trade associations, courts, and firms working on pro bono matters – who are seeking externs and interns for upcoming semesters.

The Association of Corporate Counsel for the National Capital Region has named two members of the AUWCL Class of 2018 to its Corporate Scholars Class of 2017. Michelle Emokpae and Joshua Morris were among the 12 area law students chosen as scholars this year. As part of the program, the Corporate Scholars receive summer internships in the legal departments of prestigious local companies and organizations that are members of the Association of Corporate Counsel.

American University Washington College of Law congratulates Lucas Novaes ’18, one of 17 recipients of the expanded Latham & Watkins 2L Diversity Scholars Program. Novaes is currently a summer associate in the Latham & Watkins DC office, where he is working on a variety of matters, from complex commercial litigation to pro bono and private equity finance work.

The American University Business Law Brief made the transition to a full Law Review in Fall 2011, becoming the first comprehensive business law journal in Washington, D.C. Since then, the Business Law Review (BLR) has significantly increased law review opportunities for students at AUWCL – more than 230 students have participated in BLR since its launch.

The scholarship honors the memory of Roscoe Trimmier Jr., an accomplished trial lawyer, the firm’s first African-American partner and a pioneering leader of the firm’s diversity efforts.
