Nefretete A. Smith (‘10) is a Counsel in the Legal Division at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) where she has more than 10 years of experience delivering legal and policy advice in the areas of banking law and regulation, administrative law, bank supervision, executive compensation, and corporate governance.  Nefretete began her legal career in the FDIC’s Honors Attorney Program, and transitioned into the Legislative, Regulations, and Bank Activities Section where she continues to work.  She is a subject matter expert in several areas, including deposit insurance assessments, executive compensation, and golden parachute and indemnification payments.  She also has worked on several rulemakings implementing provisions of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (e.g., deposit insurance assessments and executive compensation), the Economic Growth, Regulatory Reporting, and Consumer Protection Act (e.g., Call Reports), and more recently, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.  Nefretete received her undergraduate degree in Finance from Florida State University, and is an alum of the American Bankers Association’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania.
